Since the development of insulin in the 1920s, diabetes research was more or less dormant until the 1970s. Since then, the pace of scientific discovery into the causes, reversal, and prevention of diabetes and its complications has been breathtaking, with major breakthroughs over the last five years bringing us to the edge of a cure. The reason? Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Over the years, JDRF has played a key role in surveying the diabetes research landscape and pointing scientific discovery towards the most promising opportunities for a cure. JDRF has been a leader in seeking out new areas of investigation, forging collaboration between academia, industry, and government, and moving research from the laboratory bench to the patient bedside. JDRF has a long track record of success in identifying and championing research that has moved us closer and closer to a cure. Most major scientific breakthroughs in diabetes research to date have come about at a result of our funding and advocacy. JDRF has a terrific record of success in funding breakthrough science, including research that is making people with diabetes better, such as new and effective methods of islet transplantation, stopping the progression of diabetes in some newly diagnosed children, and slowing and hopefully reversing some of the complications of diabetes. Through people like you, we are making a difference in the lives and futures of those with juvenile diabetes. Through sponsors and friends, JDRF funds more than 50 specific research programs and centers at some of the top universities and medical centers in the world, including Harvard, Stanford and Cambridge, investigating a wide range of cure therapeutics for diabetes and its complications. We’ve never been closer to a cure. Thank you for all you do! |
